The Deccan Odyssey is the second luxury train in India. It was launched after the success of the Palace on Wheels. The train began running on 16 January 2004. It was a joint project by Maharashtra Tourism and Indian Railways.
People often compare the Deccan Odyssey with world-famous trains like the Venice Simplon Orient Express and The Blue Train in South Africa. This is because it offers high comfort, good food, and great service. But what really makes the Deccan Odyssey feel so special? Let’s look at the main things that give this train its luxury style.
Royal-Style Cabins on the Deccan Odyssey
The Deccan Odyssey has 12 guest coaches. They are designed in the royal style of old Deccan kingdoms. Out of these, 10 coaches have luxury suites with 40 cabins in total. The other 2 coaches have Presidential Suites, with 4 cabins altogether.
Each coach is named after a royal family from the Deccan region. The look and design inside match the art and style of that dynasty. This helps guests feel like they are part of history.
Food and Dining on the Deccan Odyssey
The Deccan Odyssey has two restaurants on board – Peshwa I and Peshwa II. Both serve Indian, Continental, and Oriental food. Guests can enjoy many different dishes during their journey.
The meals are served by stewards who wear traditional Maharashtrian clothes. This adds a local touch to the dining experience. The food is not only delicious but also served with care and kindness.
Onboard Bar and Lounge
The Deccan Odyssey has a bar called Mumbai Hi. It offers a good selection of Indian and international wines and spirits.
Next to the bar is a cosy lounge where guests can sit back and relax. It’s a nice spot to enjoy a drink and chat with other travellers. After a long day of sightseeing, this is the perfect place to rest.
Conference Car on the Deccan Odyssey
The Deccan Odyssey also has a conference coach that can seat up to 30 people. It is fitted with modern equipment, so guests can hold meetings, small events, or business talks during the journey.
Fitness and Relaxation While You Travel
The Deccan Odyssey has a small fitness room on board. This lets guests keep up with their daily exercise while travelling.
There are also steam baths and Ayurvedic massages available. These help guests relax and feel fresh, both in body and mind.
